Rescued Animal of the Month: June 2015:
Each month we will feature a rescued animal success story.
Amy and Cy's Story
Matty’s Place would like you to meet Amelia (Amy) and Cyril (Cy). We rescue cats and kittens almost daily, but these cats aren’t mentioned as much as the others simply due to the fact they are not adoptable. Some cats come here with the hope of helping them find forever homes, but for these two, they /are/ home.
Cy came to us because his days were numbered. As an adult, people tend to over look them, wanting a more cuddly little kitten. He is a very large handsome fella, with 7 toes on all his feet. He is very vocal, especially at feeding time….making sure we don’t forget his food dish! During his initial check-up, we found Cy was in kidney failure. It is always fatal but with care and medication they can lead a very full life. Cy has to take a very expensive medication. At $1 a pill (and he takes 3 a day) it can add up, especially if you have more than one cat in your care on the same med.
Amy showed up with two young sons in tow. Having been dumped off, they were so thin and sickly we were amazed they survived at all. Almost right away Amy started having difficulty breathing. It sounded like she had something stuck in her throat. She has a condition that causes her windpipe to stay swollen and irritated. When you first meet her, it’s scary listening to her breathe. She requires injections every 3 days of an anti-inflammatory medication that she will more than likely be on for the rest of her life.
Donations are the only way these cats can continue to receive care and be kept as healthy as possible. Spaying and neutering is just a small part of what we do to help the animals here. Your help is always welcome and much needed!
