Rescue of the Month: July 2016:
Each month we will feature one of the wonderful Animal Rescues that we support.
SCARS - Second Chance Animal Rescue Society
Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) is a non-profit Edmonton and Athabasca based registered charity that is almost entirely volunteer operated. SCARS relies on money raised through memberships, donations, sponsorships, grants, and other fundraising efforts.
SCARS takes in animals that are homeless or slated for euthanasia. We collect unowned or unwanted pets from remote area dog pounds and veterinary clinics that act as the pound. We also take in abandoned pets, many of which are sick or injured. Every animal is given medical assessment and any treatment it requires. We spay/neuter, vaccinate & microchip every animal that comes into our care.
SCARS actively works within communities to promote responsible companion animal guardianship. This includes providing spaying and neutering, vaccinations, micro-chipping and pet shelters.
Walls for Winter is a program where SCARS provides insulated dog houses and straw to families in rural communities that otherwise would not be able to provide warm shelter for their pets. This program includes providing Spay-Neuter-Return of owned pets.
